Our Pastor Search Committee and Council of
Elders are pleased to announce that they have unanimously agreed on a candidate
to present as their recommendation for the new Senior Pastor of The Rock
Church. Members of the Rock Church will be invited to meet Scott Fenton
and his family on Saturday, January 3, 2009 (7 - 8:30 PM at the home
of Matt and Amanda Vaughn: 17329 56th Avenue West, in Lynnwood)
and the membership's confirmation vote will take place after Scott speaks at
our Sunday Morning Gathering, Sunday, January 4, 2009.
You Must Be Listed On The Rock Church Membership Roster In Order To Vote
The Bylaws of The Rock Church state that only members of The Rock Church may vote to confirm the Council of Elders' recommendation for Senior Pastor. A 'member' is someone who has their name listed on the Membership Roster and also meets the following criteria:
- Members are at least eighteen years old.
- Members are in good standing with The Rock Church.
- Members hold to the Statement of Belief, Mission, and Values of The Rock Church.
- Members have not been voluntarily absent from regular services for a period of three consecutive months.
- Members have made a contribution to The Rock Church within the last twelve months.
Only those people whose names appear on the Membership Roster and who meet the criteria listed above will receive a voting ballot on Sunday, January 4th.
The Candidate Selection Process
The Pastor Search Committee evaluated nine
candidates during our four-month search for the candidate that we believe God
has prepared for leading The Rock Church. All candidates were required to
provide their resume, references, and sermon samples for the PSC to review; in
addition to completing a very detailed questionnaire designed to reveal a great
deal about the experience, capabilities, and ministry philosophies of each
candidate. Candidates who we believed had the potential to lead The Rock
Church were invited to a face-to-face interview with the Pastor Search
Committee.
The PSC met with Scott Fenton and his wife, Angela in November. After
meeting the Fentons, we followed up on Scott's references. Everyone we
spoke with gave a glowing reference for Scott and the Pastor he currently leads
with spoke about him with the same affection that a father has for his
son. The PSC began to feel as if we were prepared to decide on a
candidate, and entered a period of prayer and fasting prior to meeting for the
committee vote. We voted unanimously to present Scott Fenton as our
recommendation for the new Senior Pastor of The Rock Church.
A Brief Introduction To The Fenton Family
While all members are strongly encouraged to
attend the Introduction Party for the Fenton's on January 3rd in order to meet
Scott and hear him speak a little about his background, ministry philosophy,
and his thoughts about The Rock Church - we have included a little information
for you to review here.
Scott Fenton graduated with a B.A. in Organizational Management/Leadership from
Northwest University. He has been on staff at Christian Life Center in
Port Orchard, WA for 17 years primarily as Pastor of Student Ministries but
also served in the College, Children's, Adult Discipleship, and Counseling
Ministries and taught various courses at South Kitsap Christian School, which
is a ministry of Christian Life Center. Scott has been married to his
wife, Angela (a big fan of both scrapbooking and shopping), for six years and
they have two children (Elle - 5 years, and Luke - 3 years.)
The Membership Confirmation Vote
Scott Fenton will speak at our regularly scheduled Sunday Morning Gathering on January 4, 2009. Immediately following the service, we will ask all members who are able, to help collect and load our equipment (we're not voting until everything is packed up!) The Pastor Search Committee will make a brief statement recapping why Scott Fenton was selected and will address frequently asked questions. After that, we will have fifteen minutes for members to ask any additional questions that have not already been addressed. Members will sign the roster to receive their ballot and will anonymously vote either to confirm, or not confirm the Council of Elder's recommendation for Senior Pastor. A simple majority vote of members in attendance is required in order to confirm Scott Fenton as our new Senior Pastor.
